You don’t need a license to hire a Riversdale Barge and anyone over the age of 21 can pilot one of our boats. Full demonstration is given on arrival and lock demonstration is given at Lock 4 on the Shannon Erne Waterway.

Our Widebeam Hire Barges are a variation of the traditional Narrowboat Holiday, and each barge is fitted with central heating, log burning stove, fully equipped galleys, and are ideal for all year round Family Holidays and Irish Boating. We also provide complimentary bed linen, cooking utensils and crockery.  

We’ll even give all our customers a FREE PINT OF GUINNESS in the local pub on the first night(Over 18’s only)

Cruising Area

Cruise the Shannon-Erne Waterway, the Shannon River and Lough Erne in the comfort of a traditional wide beam barge.  With the construction of the Ballinamore-Ballyconnell Canal it has made way for an undiscovered, unappreciated part of the Country that locals like to keep a secret.

Westward, the Waterway leads you through the St.John’s Lakes and Lough Scur, visiting Ballinamore, Keshcarrigan, Kilclare and Leitrim to the upper reaches of the mighty Shannon River.

Here there is the choice of going downstream to Carrick On Shannon, Drumsna, Dromod and Rooskey, or upstream towards Lough Allen, or Acres Lake beside Dumshambo with its recreational amenity or up the Boyle River into beautiful Lough Key where you can explore the lovely Lough Key Forest Park with it’s tree top walks and much more.

Eastward leads you through a chain of lakes e.g Garadice lake with inviting islands and abundant wildlife to Ballyconnell, and then onto Upper Lough Erne and its islands, quiet mooring, Crom Castle, Carrybridge, and to Enniskillen with its activities, heritage and shopping.
